“For the first half of my life I was really lucky because I could eat whatever I wanted and never gained a pound, which makes for a really bad second half of your life because you get used to that. I ended up at 263 pounds. One day my husband said “you know honey, I’ve always loved you exactly the way you are and your weight has never bothered me. However, I’m worried about your health. I think you should do something about it because I’m worried that you’re not going to live very long and I don’t want to you to die.” It was a very kind way to say what he needed to say. He was totally right. That was on a Sunday, and on Monday, I rejoined the gym and hired a personal trainer. When you’ve been married for 31 years and when someone asks you to do something, you sort of have to try. It’s been 16 months since I started. I struggled for the first 6 months to get up and go, but I did it. Now, I want to go. It has changed my life. I will never quit. If I have to get a second job, I will.”
