“At a young age I wasn’t really active. I didn’t play a lot of organized sports. My cousin Lucas got me into working out about 10 years ago. We liked to workout at the same time. He was my best friend. We lived together. We did everything together. We played sports together. We played football for the Thunderhawks for 4 years. We played softball together and we were at the YMCA every single day together. We ended up having 3-4 different gym memberships just to try different places together. This June will be 5 years since he died in a boating accident. Even at the end of his life we were still doing so many active things together, so when he passed I put on a bunch of weight from stress. It was bad. I didn’t do anything positive about it. I kind of quit working out and didn’t play football for a couple of years. But now looking back, the biggest thing since losing him, is I try to stay positive and that’s one of the main reasons I continue to workout. Also, I see a lot of Lucas in my son Kallen. His middle name is Lucas. You know, someday I want to be 50 and still play sports and be able to do stuff with Kallen.”
