“Five years ago, I was tired of being tired. My son was just getting into high school and was getting into running. I never had those opportunities when I was younger. Watching him want to go out for cross country, I was like why? But then I started going to the meets and saw how the community embraced the kids. I was moved. I thought it was awesome. Then I decided I was just going to do it. It was my 37th birthday. I went to the local gym and decided it was time to start. That was 5 years ago. I feel like I have it figured out now. It’s taken me 42 years. I’m the fittest I’ve ever been. I’ve been thin but not fit. I’ve done it for so long now that I just have to make time. It’s a mental appointment everyday. As soon as I punch out, I go workout.”
