“I have a metal plate in my head. I fractured my skull falling off a stage in Minnesota. I was on Warped Tour in 2004 and I was on stage with Atmosphere. For Warped Tour, they have corporate rules, so you can’t stage dive from the stage into the crowd. You have to jump down to the security barrier and then climb up the barrier to jump into the crowd. It was a super hot day. It was at the Metrodome in the parking lot. They had been spraying the crowd with squirt guns. So I jumped down to the security barrier and I put both hands out to grab the rail and my right foot landed on the step rail and my left foot landed on the concrete. They were both soaking wet, so my feet slipped out from underneath me and my head smoked the rail. I hit the railing so hard that it bounced me back on my feet. I didn’t realize at the time, but I severed a nerve in my head, so I didn’t feel anything. So I just thought I would have a giant goose egg. So I stage dived into the crowd and immediately my head started gushing blood. It was gruesome. It had split open. I could like touch my own skull. They thought I was fine but then they did a CT scan and had to rush me to the hospital and now there’s a titanium plate with 2 metal screws in my head. I’m sure there’s residual effects from that. But all in all, knock on wood, I haven’t really had any major health issues, which is nice. I feel pretty lucky. My health has been pretty solid.”
