“I have a family history of health problems. I have a full line of family cancer. If I look back, it was all health issues. It was immune systems that were suppressed and the cancer finally broke out of there and took them. And they couldn’t do much about it. The baseline health wasn’t there. I’m really trying to avoid some of those issues. I see what the alternative is, so I’m trying to stay away from that. I know the benefits of working out. I truly believe that good health is a precursor to help fight cancers. I’m curious to see how it will affect me in the future. See if it will allow me to live longer than most of my relatives. Firefighting is what got me to workout because I needed to pass the physical test to get the job. I’ve been a fireman for 17 years now and up until I became a firefighter, I was pretty inactive. As soon as I saw the benefits, I stuck with it and have been doing it ever since. There’s something about working out that helps fight the feel of age. It’s a beautiful feeling to be active. I’m 46 and I’m just not ready to be that TV watching 50 year old.”
