“When my husband was playing professional baseball in Georgia, we thought it made sense to do something baseball related in the community, so we volunteered as buddies for the Miracle League. When we were paired up with the kids, we were actually out on the field playing with them. That experience is one of my most memorable moments. So, when I found out they were trying to make one in Eau Claire, and were trying to raise awareness, I was so excited, because it’s such an awesome program. It is so amazing for the kids, the volunteers and the community. When I was still living in Georgia, I started to realize that the Miracle League is so much bigger than baseball on a Saturday morning. It ends up being so much bigger for the community. You need all of these people to be the announcers, the coaches and the buddies. We even had kids who had support dogs and so they were able to take the dog out and play. Eau Claire is a really strong baseball community and there are a lot of people that put a lot of time and effort into it, so it just made sense to me for the Miracle League to come here. I already participated in it, and it was such an awesome experience. It gives every kid a chance to be physically active and to be part of a team. Every kid gets to bat. Every kid is going to end up scoring. Every kid gets a jersey and a hat. There’s even a mascot that the kids get super excited about. They get to do the things that maybe they saw their brothers and sisters do, and now they get to do it. This makes a huge difference for them. It’s such a great program. It’s so rewarding. You can’t leave there without feeling good.”
