“I grew up playing sports. I was a swimmer all throughout high school, so I know what it feels like to be in great shape. I also know what it feels like to have that slip away when college comes around and real life kicks in. The last two and a half years I was living in Seattle. I had a sedentary day job with an audio company. In the evenings I was playing with bands and working with theaters, but for the most part it was a desk job, so I slowly saw it slip away. Knowing what it was like to be in great shape was sort of always in the back of my mind. The nice thing now, is, we live in the country, so being able to go for a walk or go out for a run is nice. It makes me feel good. With my job, there’s decisions that have to be made everyday with the projects I’m working on, and working out definitely helps clear my mind. With what I do, scheduling is so inconsistent. I might be working a 16 hour day or I might have a day where there isn’t much to do. I’ve been lucky to tour with guys who are healthy eaters. Fast food was avoided, but if you’re operating on 4-5 hours of sleep, it seems like a luxury at times and that’s not healthy. I’m 35 now, and I think there’s a switch that you have to make. You have to wake up and realize you’re not 22 anymore. I think for me, a big part is when I graduated high school at 18, it was sort of like this steady downhill slope of not being in shape anymore. It’s just time to be done with those days. It’s time to climb back up. I don’t beat myself up about it, but at the same time, it’s just time for a lifestyle change.”
