“On Sunday, September 11th, we will be competing in the IRONMAN Wisconsin triathlon. It’s a 2.4 mile swim, a 112 mile bike ride, and a full marathon. It has been a lot of training, but it’s worth it. We are going to race to remember and honor the fallen firefighters and the brothers and sisters we lost on that tragic day. I’m involved with a team called Team Firefighter, which is a nonprofit organization trying to promote health and fitness. It’s a great team. We’ve done a lot of different races for difference charities. We try to do something at least once a year. For us, it’s about giving back. Our team was looking for an event to do together this year. We wanted to get as many team members involved as possible. When we came across IRONMAN Wisconsin, and started talking about it, and organizing it, we realized it was on 9/11. Once that happened, everything fell into place. That date obviously holds a special place in our hearts, so we just want to go out and race to remember and not forget what happened that day. There’s extra motivation for us. It’s going to be an exciting event for us. On 9/11, those firefighters did exactly what they were trained to do, and it was just a very unfortunate day. This race is for them.”
