“I’ve been exercising my entire life. My dad started running when I was in grade school, which lead all of us to be active. When we were growing up, we played, and that’s carried on throughout my life. I like exercise, but I really like to play. It socially connects me to people. I think that when you lose that element of play, sometimes fitness becomes a lot like work. I’ve just always liked to have fun and play. I look at my dad who’s 80 and he still likes to play. I hope that’s a characteristic I never lose. I enjoy playing games and I enjoy being active. I run almost everyday. I lift weights 3 times a week. I still play old mans hockey a couple nights a week. I ride bike. I try to do 1 triathlon every year. I do community races. I’m hyper, which makes it difficult for me to sit around. I always want to be moving. A transition I’ve made in the last 5 years, is I play a ton of pickleball. That’s a sport that’s probably more popular with the senior crowd, but it’s really picking up locally. And, we have some really good players. It’s been fun to get into. It really is a great game. We teach it now as part of the Phy Ed curriculum. The kids love it. It’s growing fast and that’s been a new form of fitness for me that I’ve really gotten into. I’m going to continue running everyday. I’ll continue to play pickle ball. I want to continue playing old mans hockey. I just read an article about a guy in Florida who’s in the Guinness Book of World Records for the oldest hockey player on earth at 87, so maybe I’ll challenge his record.”
